Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns

If you’re looking for a Halloween event to attend that’s not the typical pumpkin patch and haunted house, it’s worth getting tickets to the Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns, just once.  This year, we attended the one at the Los Angeles Convention Center and if I  hadn’t been to it in a previous year at Descanso Gardens, I would’ve been more excited about what I saw.  Due to heat issues with the pumpkins when it was at the gardens, they moved it indoors to the convention center.  It lost its magical aura and fitting Halloween theme when it became just a bunch of jack o’lanterns sitting on display, rather than in a natural setting and attached to trees and fences.  I also noticed quite a lot of melted pumpkins even though it was indoors.  The carvings mostly focused on popular movies and characters, but they also had pumpkins carved to look like Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton!

I travel, eat, blog, organize and re-organize, hunt for the unusual out of the usual, attempt many DIY projects, and can't go without boba for more than a week. The craziest road trip I ever took was to go to Sequoia National Park for a day - from Huntington Beach. The round trip was over 12 hours and the visit lasted about 2 hours. But the views were worth it!
