Spring is probably the best time to visit the Getty Villa in Malibu because of the flowers, but it’s over 80 degrees right now in Southern California and the late afternoon weather was perfect for walking around, and we did have some change in color with the fall leaves even though the crispness of chilly weather has not yet arrived.
You need a reservation to go, it’s free entrance but there is a parking fee. At the time of this writing, before 3pm arrival is $15 per car, and after 3pm it is $10 per car.
Our visit ended on a high note, two stags were crossing the driveway and one stood very near our car as we were exiting the villa. Unfortunately, it was twilight and I was driving so I wasn’t able to get a picture.
The Getty Villa focuses on antiquities, so if you’re interested in art and paintings, you’ll want to drive over to the Getty Center and see that museum as well.
